'O Magnum Mysterium

I do love a rollicking good song rejoicing and singing scripture to the Lord like the 2 previous posts. They make me think of King David shouting, singing, leaping, and dancing with the sound of a trumpet when the ark of the covenant was brought into Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6:12-23). 'O happy days! These songs seem to give me a glimpse or a taste of the great joy of the Lord at times. I want to burst with happiness and feel like he's sharing his wondrous joy and almost an inside joke with me.

Sometimes, I hope heaven is like one big MGM musical extravaganza! We will all be going about our daily business and then break into songs of rejoicing, praising, and dancing unto the Lord. And naturally, we will all have terrific singing voices and be talented dancers. Can you imagine dancing like Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly? Singing like Beverly Sills or Judy Garland? I have great hopes for things like that since I sound more like Carol Burnett and dance like, well... we won't go there! Sometimes, I get really curious about what heaven will be like. It's supposed to be better than anything we can hope or imagine.... such fantasies can be fun! Streets paved with gold and everyone breaking into song and dancing and skipping down them! 

On the other hand, I wonder what worship will be like in heaven. I love the beauty of most of the older hymns and the gregorian chants. Sometimes, these hymns give me a glimpse or taste of the holiness of the Lord that takes my breath away. I am left with an awe of how there is nothing that compares to him. There are no words to describe it.

With those thoughts in mind, I would like to end the year with this beautiful hymn, 'O Magnum Mysterium. I love the idea that we will see these beautiful singers in heaven. 

'O magnum mysterium
et admirabile sacramentum,
ut animalia viderent Dominum natum,
jacentem in præsepio.

Beata virgo, cujus viscera meruerunt
portare Dominum Christum, Alleluia!

Translation:

'O great mystery
and wondrous sacrament,
that animals should see the newborn Lord
lying in their manger.

Blessed is the Virgin whose womb was worthy
to bear the Lord Jesus Christ. Alleluia!
